"I thought it was weird when you picked us to make a documentary. But, all in all, I think an ordinary paper company like Dunder Mifflin was a great subject for a documentary. There’s a lot of beauty in ordinary things. Isn’t that kind of the point?"

while i’m on a text post spree, what cool music are you kids listening to these days?

historyofmyobsessions: "the main beef I have w/Almost Human is that the quirky scientist, Rudy, isn't a girllllllll >:( [also, he only gets used for like 'being awkward w/sex jokes, which is just uncomfortable for everyone]."

UGH THAT TROPE IS THE WORST. Like, the notion that people who are into stem fields ~can’t handle sex/related things~ is so outdated (i mean this is the 21st century surely we are beyond that) and obviously untrue………idk. things suck.

historyofmyobsessions: "the only female scientists I can think of are Astrid from Fringe and Kaylee from Firefly (who's technically an engineer; i'm not sure if that qualifies). :c"

oh, I’d completely forgotten about kaylee! but she’s such a perfect example of how interesting sci fi scientists can be (i haven’t seen fringe but I believe you). i just wish more shows would incorporate characters like her :((

but really, sci fi gives us so many great weird/neurotic/passionate male scientist characters (newton geiszler, rodney mckay, ian malcolm, the doctor from star trek voyager—the list goes on and on) I’m so bummed out that there’s such a lack of female ones. female scientists in media are often either completely emotionally distant or emotionally well-adjusted and model members of society. and while I don’t really have a problem with the latter, it would just be NICE to see shows where the women can be just as weird as the men (because lbr, there are a lot of eccentric women in the sciences) who can be good at their job and still have a certain degree of empathy along with their doctorates
